In the present scenario Ayurvedic oral health is aware of the importance of good oral health. In day-to-day life, the oral cavity is a part of the body which is significantly exposed to external environment pollution, cold drinks, fast foods, tobacco, alcohol intake, etc.

To avoid oral health damage Ayurvedic oral care gives specialized therapy – “Gandusha and Kavala” to maintain good oral hygiene.

GANDUSHA: Oil Pulling

Gandusha is the procedure where medicated fluid is held inside the mouth completely without any movement, so that the mouth is completely distended. This Therapy is considered as a part of Dinacharya (Daily Regimens), which itself suggests its importance in an individual’s life.

Benefits:

This treatment is very good for your teeth; it releases a lot of impurities and toxins, literally pulling the mouth. Toxins and impurities in the mouth may get lost in different parts of the body and create a stress on the immune system, and that is the reason why oil pulling activates the immune system.
Gandusha has both curative and preventive properties; therefore, it can be performed by healthy as well as diseased persons.

According to different diseased conditions, specific mediums can be used to perform Gandusha, such as decoction, taila, ghrutha, etc.
For a healthy person, it can be done with tila taila (Sesame oil).

KAVALA: Gargling

Kavala is a procedure where you take the medicated liquid in your mouth and move it around and gargle it all the way to the back of your throat for a specific amount of time.

Benefits:

Proper absorption of the active principles takes place in the oral cavity due to the pressure created by the action of Kavala. Due to the regular movement of drugs within the oral cavity, the bacteria present will be washed off, and hence halitosis, plaque formation, tooth decay, and gingivitis can be prevented.

Thus, regularly practicing Gandusha and Kavala as a part of our daily regimens helps to maintain good Ayurvedic oral hygiene.

By incorporating these natural oral health practices into your routine, you can ensure comprehensive oral care.
