“KIZHI” the word translates to “POUCH” in Malayalam and called Pinda sweda in Sanskrit where “Pinda” means “Bolus” and “Sweda” means “Sweat” as the main purpose of kizhi is to increase perspiration.
So, Kizhi is a therapy where medicines are wrapped in a cloth, made into a bolus, heated and applied on to the body.
It is mainly practiced as a Poorvakarma before Sodhana to liquify the mala’s(toxins) and facilitates the movement towards Koshta(Gastrointestinal Tract), from where it is expelled out through the nearest route by suitable Sodhana therapy.
According to the disease condition, different types of kizhi are being used. As the kizhi varies, it’s benefits and ingredients used also varies.
If the condition demands pain relief, then Podikizhi or Elakizhi can be used or else pouches with sand (Manal Kizhi) or Rock salt (Lavana Kizhi) can also be used.
For Strengthening and nourishing, Njavarakizhi is preferred.
There are a variety of other kizhi’s like Aavikizhi, Kaadikizhi, Navadhanyakizhi, Muttakizhi, Narangakizhi and many more.
In Rockholm Ayurvedic Beach Resort, we are doing different types of kizhi’s, based on the condition and diagnosis of an individual. More like a personalised treatment schedule.
