Agni
has got prime importance in treatment. Without agni, there is no life at all. Longevity, Complexion, Lustre, Health, Enthusiasm, Metabolism are all dependant on agnibala.
“Agni moolam balam pumsam bala moolam hi jeevitham”
Deha bala is directly dependant on agni.
Correction of Agni is the basic principle of treatment.
Types of Agni:
There are 13 types of Agni:
- Jataragni
- Dhatwagni - 7
- Bhootagni - 5
As per Dosha predominance, Jataragni can be classified into 4:
- Samagni - Samadosha
- Vishamagni - Vata predominant
- Teekshnagni - Pitha predominant
- Mandagni - Kapha predominant
Samagni:
Properly digest the food.
Vishamagni:
Irregular digestive fire, Bloating, Abdominal pain, Constipation, Loose stools, Abdominal heaviness, Gurgling sound in abdomen
Theekshnagni:
Easily digest food even if large quantity is consumed.
Next stage of theekshnagni is Atyagni, at the end of digestion of food, it may cause burning sensation of throat, palate and lips.
Mandagni:Difficult to digest even small quantity of food.
Develop symptoms like abdominal distention, heaviness of head, cough, dyspnea, excess salivation, vomiting, fatigue.

In Ayurveda
, it is mentioned that the cause of 80% of disease is derangement of Agni. So by maintaining agni, one can be healthy without undergoing any treatment procedures. In the definition of Swastha (healthy person) Acharya mentioned “Samagni” or balanced state of agni as a criteria along with Samadosha,Samadhatu and Samamala.
