Journey 2: Weight, Metabolic and Detox Wellness
A 50-year-old guest’s 28-night programme addressing recent weight gain alongside sleep, digestion, circulation and energy concerns, understood as Medovridhi with a Vata imbalance.
At Rockholm, weight and metabolic concerns are approached through traditional Kerala Ayurveda, looking at the body as a whole rather than treating symptoms in isolation. Gradual weight gain, sluggish metabolism, poor digestion and disrupted sleep are often connected, and our physicians design personalised programmes that address them together.
Programmes use traditional therapies such as Udwarthanam, Abhyanga, Elakizhi and the Panchakarma cleansing sequence, combined with customised diet, daily routine and therapeutic yoga. This page shares two real, anonymised guest journeys from this category, showing how a physician assessed each guest and built their programme.

A 62-year-old guest’s 28-night programme addressing gradual weight gain, knee discomfort, fatigue and fluid retention, understood in Ayurvedic terms as a Kapha-Vata imbalance.
Every programme in this category is personalised after a physician’s assessment, and may draw from the following:
These journeys are shared for general education only. They are not medical advice, not a diagnosis, and not a promise of any result. Individual results vary. Ayurvedic programmes at Rockholm are supportive wellness care and do not replace diagnosis or treatment by a qualified doctor. Please consult a physician about any health condition. Every programme is personalised after consultation and assessment by a Rockholm Ayurveda doctor.
Ayurveda commonly links persistent weight gain to Medovridhi, an excess accumulation of Medas (fat tissue), often alongside a Kapha or Kapha-Vata imbalance. Rather than focusing on weight alone, a physician looks at digestion, metabolism and daily routine as connected factors.
Panchakarma is a sequence of traditional Ayurvedic cleansing procedures, which may include Virechana and Vasthy treatments. In a weight and detox programme, it is used to help clear excess Kapha and Medas, alongside therapies, diet and lifestyle guidance.
Depending on the physician’s assessment, a programme may include Udwarthanam (herbal powder massage), Abhyanga (medicated oil massage), Elakizhi (herbal leaf-bolus therapy) and medicated steam, alongside internal Ayurvedic medicines.
Not in the way fasting is commonly understood. Ayurvedic detox works through therapies such as Panchakarma, combined with a specific diet suited to the guest’s constitution and imbalance, rather than food restriction alone.
Diet is planned by the physician alongside the therapies, based on the guest’s constitution and the imbalance identified at consultation. It is intended to support digestion and complement the therapies, not to be followed in isolation.
At Rockholm, these programmes are commonly 21 or 28 nights, though the exact length is agreed with the physician after assessment. Shorter detox and rejuvenation programmes are also available.
No. Programs in this category are supportive wellness care. Guests with existing medical conditions should continue care with their own doctor and inform the Rockholm physician of any diagnoses and medications.
