About ROCKHOLM

FAQs

Rockholm at the Lighthouse beach is a full fledged Ayurveda & Yoga centric, Boutique Beach hotel. The hotel offers 23 guest rooms including 2 suites (1 Ocean View Luxury Suites and 1 Penthouse Luxury Suite) in a sustainable environment.

The hotel has a built up area of approx. 15,000 sq. feet on 75 cents of land, which includes three buildings named – Residence Ocean, Residence Arogya & Residence Sky, Naivedya Restaurant, Bodhi Yoga Pavilion, A Sea facing garden, Terrace Yoga Pavilion and a fully-fledged Ayurveda Center with 3 Treatment Rooms and a Steam Bath.

An established seaside hotel in the early 1980s, Rockholm traces its early origins to Mr. Peter Christian and his family who bought the land in the mid sixties and built a home. Eventually, this gave way to a popular seaside hotel in 1979 managed by the same Christian family with their son Roger Christian overlooking the daily operations. It was a hot favorite amongst the British, Germans, Americans and several other distinguished guests from the Embassies and Consulates.
The German architect who built the earlier property proposed the name Rockholm as it literally means – “Rocks surrounded by water on three sides”. Inspired by the relevance of this name and the history of the earlier hotel we chose to continue with the name Rockholm.
The interior designer and architect is Bijoy Ramachandran from Hundred Hands, Bengaluru.

Delhi based wall mural artist Rajani Pillai has created the artwork on the reception brick wall. It depicts the classical dance of Kerala, ‘Kathakali’. This elaborate dance form is distinguished by dramatic, colorful face masks and costumes. The artist has beautifully rendered this expressive, popular dance form as a tribute to Kerala’s most popular art.

The restaurant mural wall is also designed by artist Rajani Pillai. This scenic art wall pays tribute to the landmark Lighthouse that naturally lends its name to the beach. A remarkable reminder of the vast sea, fisher folk, the palm fringed landscape and the rocky terrain dotted by birds in the distant sky.

The hotel is located in the seaside town of Kovalam. The Thiruvananthapuram Railway Station is 16 kms from the hotel and the drive will take approximately 30 minutes.

Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is 16.5 kms from the hotel and the drive is approximately 30 minutes.

Thiruvananthapuram city is located at a distance of 15 kms from Rockholm and is the capital city of the state of Kerala.

Though the main building was built in 1979, the hotel has been recently renovated and relaunched in the month of November 2019. The hotel officially opened its doors on November 1, 2019.
