We can see a great deal of diversity in the abilities, physical appearances, behaviour etc. among humans. What is it that makes an individual unique and distinctly different from others? It is the PRAKRUTHI or CONSTITUITION "Prakruthisthu swabhavah" The word 'Prakruthi' derives from two words: "Prak" refers to before, beginning or source of origin. "Kruthi" refers to birth or creation. Prakruthi, on the whole means 'the first formed nature' In Ayurveda, the unchangeable genetic identity of an individual is called Prakruthi. "Janmamaranatharakalabhavini avikarini doshasthithi prakruthi"

Formation of Prakruthi

The Doshic predominance i.e. the state of Vatha, Pitha and Kapha at the union of sperm & ovum and the mental faculties of parents determines the Prakruthi of the child.
Types of Prakruthi
According to Ayurveda, there are 7 types of Saririka Prakruthi:
  1. Vatha
  2. Pitha
  3. Kapha
  4. Vatha Pitha
  5. Vatha Kapha
  6. Pitha Kapha
  7. Vatha Pitha Kapha
In addition to the above, there are 3 types of Manasa Prakruthi too. (Satwa,Raja & Tama)

1. Vatha Prakruthi Vatha is characterized by qualities of dryness, coldness, lightness and mobility. Those with dominant Vatha Prakruthi tend to be creative, enthusiastic & quick thinking, but may experience imbalance such as anxiety, insomnia and irregular digestion when out of harmony.

2. Pitha Prakruthi Pitha manifest with qualities of heat, sharpness, lightness and intensity. Individuals with prominent Pitha Prakruthi are often sharp minded, ambitious, and have a strong appetite for life. However, they can be prone to issues like inflammation, heartburn and anger when imbalanced.

3. Kapha Prakruthi Kapha embodies qualities of heaviness, slowness, coolness and stability. Those with Kapha Prakruthi are calm, nurturing and have a strong stamina, but they may face challenges like weight gain, sluggishness and attachment when their constitution is disturbed.

In Dwandhaja and Tridoshaja Prakruthi, characteristics of the respective doshas can be seen according to their predominance. In Ayurveda, understanding the prakruthi is fundamental to achieving balance and well-being in one's life. Knowing one's Prakruthi can guide him/her to a lifestyle and diet that harmonizes with his/her unique constitution, promoting overall health and wellbeing.
