Musculoskeletal & Pain Support

dining

Joints, back pain, stiffness and reduced mobility are among the most common reasons guests come to Rockholm. Traditional Kerala Ayurveda has a detailed understanding of how the body moves, and how to support it when movement becomes uncomfortable. Rather than focusing on isolated symptoms, our physicians look at the whole person: the doshas involved, the tissues affected, and the deeper patterns driving discomfort.

Programmes combine warm-oil therapies such as Abhyanga, Kati Vasti and Janu Vasti, herbal fomentation such as Elakizhi and Narangakizhi, Panchakarma cleansing where appropriate, internal Ayurvedic medicines and gentle therapeutic yoga. This page shares two real, anonymised guest journeys from this category, showing how a physician assessed each guest and built their programme.

faq's

Ayurveda has a long-standing approach to this, referred to as Gridhrasi, which covers pain and stiffness in the lower back that can spread down the leg. Physicians use therapies such as Kati Vasti, oil massage and herbal fomentation to support comfort and movement. Results vary from person to person.

Ayurveda has a traditional understanding of joint wear and stiffness, known as Sandhigatavata. Supportive therapies focus on easing discomfort and helping you move more comfortably. For a diagnosed condition like arthritis, this works alongside your regular medical care, not instead of it.

Depending on what the physician finds at your consultation, this usually includes warm oil massage, oil poured over the affected area (such as the lower back or knee), herbal fomentation, and sometimes medicated steam, along with gentle yoga and diet advice.

These are simple, well-known Ayurvedic treatments where warm medicated oil is held in place over a specific area, the lower back for Kati Vasti, the knee for Janu Vasti, to help with warmth, comfort and ease of movement.

Yes, many guests do. The physician will build your programme as supportive care that works alongside your existing treatment, not as a replacement for it. Bring your reports and medication list so the doctor has the full picture.

No. Please keep taking whatever your own doctor has prescribed. Just let our physician know what you’re on, and your programme will be planned around it.

If your back or joint pain is sudden, severe, or getting worse, please get that checked by a doctor first. Our programmes are supportive wellness care, so they work best alongside proper medical advice, not in place of it.
