Why he came to Rockholm
A 34-year-old guest came to Rockholm after a year in which burnout had, in his words, taken over his sleep. He described feeling restless and tired, and said this was wearing down his energy and general wellbeing.
At consultation, his main concerns included:
- Difficulty falling and staying asleep
- Exhaustion following a period of burnout
- Feelings of anxiety
- Emotional eating
- An irregular bowel habit with bloating and discomfort
- Mental fatigue
He was looking for a physician-led Panchakarma programme primarily to support better sleep, a calmer mind and improved energy.
The Ayurvedic assessment
Following a detailed consultation and examination, the physician understood his presentation in Ayurvedic terms as a Vatha–Pitha imbalance (Vatha-Pitha Vikruthi). The programme was planned to support Vatha and Pitha balance, with attention to the disturbed sleep, anxious feelings and mental fatigue he described.
His personalised programme
A personalised Ayurveda programme was planned and monitored by the physician according to the guest’s assessment and his response during the stay. His programme included:
- Snehana – Achasnehapanam (internal intake of medicated ghee in graded doses) and Abhyanga (warm medicated-oil body massage)
- Swedana – medicated steam and Podikizhi (warm herbal-powder poultice)
- Shodhana – Virechana (physician-supervised purgation) and Nasyam (medicated nasal therapy)
- Head and calming therapies – Sirodhara (a steady stream of warm medicated oil over the forehead), Thakradhara (medicated buttermilk stream) and Thalam (medicated paste applied to the crown of the head)
- Rasayana – Njavarakizhi (poultice of medicinal Njavara rice cooked in milk and herbal decoction) as the restorative phase
- Internal Ayurvedic medicines – as prescribed
- Yoga and meditation
- Customised diet and lifestyle guidance
How the 16 nights unfolded
Through the first week he said he still felt mentally restless at times. From the second week he reported that he was sleeping noticeably better and that his digestion had settled, and he described feeling more enthusiastic and energetic. At his final review he reported feeling relaxed and energetic, with what he called a marked improvement in his sleep.
What he reported by the end of his stay
Outcomes are individual. During his stay, this guest reported:
- Improved sleep quality
- Better energy
- Improved digestion
- Reduced feelings of anxiety
- A greater sense of relaxation and enthusiasm
A note from the Rockholm physician
“He arrived tired and unsettled after a difficult year, and sleep was the concern he cared most about. He followed the therapies and internal medicines carefully and gave the daily routine a fair chance, which is not always easy for someone used to a very demanding schedule. By the final review he reported that he was sleeping much better, with more energy, calmer digestion and less anxiety. I advised him to continue the prescribed internal medicines and home-care measures, and to protect a regular bedtime and mealtime routine once he was back at work.”
